Problem Statement

Food is a basic necessity for everyone. However, people find themselves in situations where they are either too lazy to prepare a meal, busy with work, school, etc. that they have to eat food from restaurants and food vendors. The problems they face include: no time to cook, the queue at the restaurant is long, mixed up orders and delayed orders.

Goals & Objectives

  • To design a solution that will eradicate the challenges of ordering food.
  • To design a user-friendly application that encourages online ordering.
  • To build a platform where people could easy locate new restaurants in the city.
  • To design an app that can easily show users the menu of a restaurant at glance.

Targeted Audience

Bika targets the following: 9-5 workers in the city, laborers, undergraduates in the city’s university and food businesses.

Research Method

The user must be at the center of all development decisions in the user-centered design process. I was able to learn more about users' needs and desires, as well as their backgrounds, by conducting user interviews, which would help me create a positive user experience.

I was able to conduct user research interviews, a market survey, and product requirements research with my team as a result of the first two.

Design Process

User Research

The user research aims to better understand users' online food ordering habits, needs, thoughts, frustrations, and motivations. 15 people were interviewed using a qualitative research method. The majority were middle-class Enugu residents, with 30% studying in Enugu state, Nigeria. They were between the ages of 18 and 24. Each participant described his or her experience ordering food in Enugu based on the interview.

Empathy Map

After reviewing all of the interviews (a major component of qualitative research), I proceeded to organize notes - as summaries - into an empathy map, in order to investigate different perspectives of the interviewees; what theysay, do, feel and think .

User Personas

I created engaging user personas that fit the right demographics and highlight the users' pain points and goals.

Assets & Visuals

IFollowing several sessions of research and data collection, I began working on the product's aesthetics. Before switching to Balsamiq for wireframes, I drew some of the concepts as sketches. I used Figma for the final design iteration.

Hi-Fi Frames

I moved on to my software tool after several iterations on paper. Before deciding on the best iteration to convert to high fidelity, I first design the interaction in low fidelity to test different ideas and iterations.

Achievements & Learnings

This was a project that I worked with three friends (two developers and a brand designer). We were given the contract to work on a food app for Enugu residents. This contract was awarded by ny lecturer in school.

I learnt how to perform user research better. The project was also an eye-opener for me to develop better on my typography and iconography skills. I also learnt how to manage my team better and also led by example during the product development.
