Bika
A mobility app that allows bicycle owners to bike (and cashout) anywhere close to them delivering food, snacks, groceries fruits or drinks. Cyclist recieve orders from a food ordering service and then delivers them to nearby households in their communities.
General Overview
Food delivery is a huge challenge for food businesses of food tech startup in Nigeria. It either a challenge of delayed deliveries, missing orders or order mishandling.
A faster and leaner method for these deliveries in communities could help eradicate the challenge these startups or food businesses face. Bika was developed to address this problem in a lucrative way through cycling in communities.
Problem Statement
While ordering food online, you may encounter issues such as delayed deliveries, misplaced orders, and stolen orders. This challenge, in turn, causes the annoyance of ordering food online. When this happens, customers find it difficult to order food, groceries, or fruits online. They may even stop buying food online and devalue the service.
Goals & Objectives
- To design a solution that will eradicate the challenges of food delivery.
- To design a user-friendly application that encourages cycling.
- To build a platform where people could lease their bicycles for cash.
- To invent a go-to market product that would support the climate justice.
- To build a product that empowers the youthand communities through cycling.
Targeted Audience
Bika target the following: bicycle owners, undergraduates seeking side income, job seekers, youths and food businesses.
Research Method
It is critical in the user-centered design process to place the user at the center of all development decisions. By conducting user interviews, I was be able to learn more about users' needs and desire, as well as their background, which would help me create a positive user experience.
As a result of the first two, I was be able to conduct user research interviews, a market survey, and product requirements research with my team.
Design Process
User Research
The user research focuses on understanding users' cycling and online food ordering behaviours needs, thoughts, frustrations, and motivations. A qualitative research method was used, and 30 people were interviewed. The majority of them were middle-class Abuja resident, with thirty percent studying in Lagos and Enugu state, Nigeria. They ranged in age from 18 to 35. Based on the inteview, each participant described his or her experience with ordering food and cycling.
Empathy Map
After reviewing all of the inteviews (a major component of qualitative research), I proceeded to organize notes - as summaries - into an empathy map, in order to investigate diferent perspective of the interviewees; what they say, do, feel, and think.
User Personas
I created engaging user personas that fit the right demographics and highlight the users' pain points and goals

Assets & Visuals
Following several sessions of research and data collection, I begin working on the product's aesthetics. Before switching to Balsamiq for wireframe, I drew some of the concepts as sketches. I used Figma for the final design iteration.

Hi-Fi Frames
I moved on to my software tool after several iterations on paper. Before deciding on the best iteration to convert to high fidelity, I first design the interaction in low fidelity to test different ideas and iterations.

Achievements & Learnings
This was a project that I worked with from my startup team at firansefood.com. We were inspired to work on this because of the delivery challenge the startup encountered in 2022. This project taught me how to understand the dire needs of customers of food businesses.
I learnt how to manage products better with product management tools like Trello and monday.com. The project also helped me in learning more on researches for product yet to be popular in the market. I managed my team better and also led by example during the product development.
